For our ingredients, we buy in bulk and from sustainable sources as much as possible. On top of 100%-perfect (eg local, transparent, fair trade, organic, vegan, cruelty-free, AND plastic-free) sources already being often non-existent in today’s market, the pandemic has seriously disrupted almost every industry around the world, leading to global shortages, longer freight times, and many suppliers shutting down entirely. We are doing our best to continue sourcing from sustainable companies. As our small business grows, so does our buying power! The bulk ingredients we use to make our products currently range from 1 lb bags of herb powders and 2.2 lb bottles of essential oils, to 50 lb bags of sodium hydroxide and 440 lb drums of vegetable oil. Every six months, we review our suppliers to ensure they’re staying up-to-date on certifications and to negotiate optimal prices to keep our products accessible.

We recycle as much of our ingredient packaging as we can through our city’s limited service. Our pallets and 55 gallon drums are quickly picked up by community members to be repurposed. We reuse every shipping box we get, either to ship again, or shredded as packing filler! We also pay for Terracycle boxes to recycle label backs, used tape, faded sharpies, & more.

As a company that makes up to 500 lbs of soap per week, soap flakes & leftover soap bits are our most common type of waste (by weight). We rescue soap flakes & bits to remelt into a scrappy soap that our customers love. Plus, we never have to buy dish or floor soap since there’s always so much soap in the sink and on the floor already!
